Bartolomé Mitre y Vedia letters to José S. Alvarez, 1898 30 Aug.-14 Sept.

Four letters from Bartolomé Mitre y Vedia, founder and prospective director of the magazine Caras y caretas (Buenos Aires, Argentina), to José S. Alvarez ("Fray Mocho"), written in the weeks preceding issue of its first number on 8 Oct, 1898, concerning the nature of the publication, the subjects and extent of articles, and the illustrations (drawings and photographs). Shortly afterwards Alvarez took Mitre's place as director, the latter's father Bartolomé Mitre (1821-1906), ex-president of Argentina and founder of the newspaper "La nación", having objected to the association of his name with the satirical content of the magazine.
